Long Code - 10DLC

Due to its low cost and low barrier to entry, sending messages via long codes, or 10DLC, is by far the most popular choice of number type. As well, long codes allow you to use numbers that users think of as local.

10DLC registration is reviewed by a single body rather than by each carrier, which simplifies the process. However, it requires registration of both the brand and campaign. Additionally, each campaign, or type of message, must be registered separately.

Additional Information

The section on Common Requirements has general guidelines for registration.

Brand

A brand is a business or organization. It is the entity responsible for sending messages. The brand is required to register to ensure mobile carriers know who the sender is.

Brand registration is an evaluation of reputation and the results of the evaluation have an effect on throughput or the number of messages that can be sent in a second or day. The more complete the set of information describing the brand, the greater the potential brand score, so please be thorough when completing the brand registration form.

Campaigns

A campaign is the kind of message being sent. For each type of message, the brand is required to register a new campaign. This allows the carriers to understand what is being sent. Examples of campaigns might be:

  • sale announcements
  • shipping notification
  • 2 factor authentication codes

10DLC Registration

To begin the registration process, complete the CarrierX 10DLC Registration form and return to your CarrierX representative.

Support Contact

Make sure to include both a phone number and email address for support.

Domain Name

The company name and the email/website domains should be the same or similar. For instance, registering the brand CarrierX with an email address of carrierx@gmail.com will likely be rejected.

Approval Time

Simple campaigns like delivery notification and two factor authentication are typically reviewed in around 3 business days, while more complex campaigns can take up to a couple of weeks.

Number Pooling

Using multiple numbers to send and receive messages is permitted under 10DLC. This allows you to use numbers local to your users. If you intend to use 50+ numbers, you need to identify the numbers that will be in the pool.
